Allegations Against People who Work with, Care for or Volunteer with Children This chapter has been updated to reflect Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015.
Children who Harm Other Children Section 8.7.48 has been updated.
E-Safety Strategy This chapter has been updated to reflect the Serious Crime Act (2015) which introduced an offence of sexual communication with a child. This applies to an adult who communicates with a child and the communication is sexual or if it is intended to elicit from the child a communication which is sexual and the adult reasonably believes the child to be under16 years of age. The Act also amended the Sex Offences Act 2003 so it is now an offence for an adult to arrange to meet with someone under 16 having communicated with them on just one occasion (previously it was on at least two occasions).
Fabricated or Induced Illness Section 8.13.35 has been amended to reflect who must be invited to a Strategy Meeting and 8.13.40, to state that it is very likely that more than one Strategy Meeting will be necessary

Cross-Border Child Protection Cases A link has been added to Working with Foreign Authorities: Child Protection Cases and Care Order Departmental Advice for Local Authorities, Social Workers, Service Managers and Children’s Services Lawyers (July 2014) in Related Guidance.

Pre-Birth Conference has been amended to include social worker(s) for the parents, if applicable should be invited and where the parent is a care leaver and the social worker is unable to attend, the service should be represented by a senior social worker, senior practitioner or Manager.
Self-Harm and Suicidal Behaviour A link has been added to Royal College of Psychiatrists Managing Self-harm in Young People and Guidance for Developing a Local Suicide Prevention Action Plan: Information for Public Health Staff in Local Authorities.
Sexual Exploitation At 8.30.35, information has been added in relation to The Child Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme.
Trafficked Children A link has been added to the Statutory Guidance for Local Authorities on the Care of Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking and Trafficked Children (2014) and the chapter updated to reflect the guidance and in particular age assessments should only be carried out where there is significant reason to doubt that the claimant is a child and should not be a routine part of a local authority’s assessment of unaccompanied or trafficked children.
Unexplained Injuries to Young Children 8.36.4 has been amended to include the designation of the term “unexplained” should not influence staff into making assumptions that the injury is either accidental or non-accidental. 8.36.6, Serious Unexplained Injury Strategy Discussion and 8.36.7, Conclusion have been added.
Arrangements Regarding Recruitment and Selection of Staff This chapter has been extensively updated and in particular information has been added with regards to the DBS Eligibility Criteria which has been updated to cover the new term of ‘Work with Children’. The concept of Work with Children includes, but is wider than, Regulated Activity. The term has been adopted by the DBS to give a single definition of roles which will be subject to an Enhanced check, which were previously dealt with under various provisions. The term does not alter the relevant activities, it merely clarifies the situation.
